About Us

We are a family owned and operated business located in beautiful Southern Illinois. The Jack family has deep roots in Southern Illinois. Our ancestors came here in early 1800's and settled in the Johnson, Williamson, and Jackson counties, and we have been here ever since. For more than 180 years we have made our living as farmers, welders, miners, pastors, engineers, carpenters, and businessmen. Our family line has served in the Civil War, World War I, and World War II.  We come from a long line and proud tradition of hard working Jacks.

As a father and two sons, we have been serving the Southern Illinois community for 55 years, bringing a wealth of experience to every project we undertake. We’ve been working together as a family at Jack Home Construction since 1969, when our father, Butch, started the business with a commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Over the years, we, Shawn and Darek, joined him, and together we’ve built homes and a legacy we’re proud of. Along with our extensive experience, we have a deep commitment to the complete satisfaction of each and every customer.

Now, we’re excited to announce our next chapter—JackBuilt Woodcrafts. This new venture will allow us to focus on woodworking, a craft we’ve always been passionate about. With our new CNC machine, we’ll be able to create intricate and precise designs like never before, bringing a new level of detail to everything we do. We’re looking forward to continuing our journey together and expanding our family tradition into this new arena.

Meet Butch Jack.

Butch has been designing and building homes for over 50 years. Ever since Butch was a teenager, he knew that he wanted to build houses. After high school he worked under a contractor for a few years, and then began his own home building business back in 1969. Not only did Butch build homes for other people during the day, but when his kids were still little, he built a few houses in the evenings and weekends for his family to then live in. As his business continued, he soon gained a reputation for building good solid homes and for providing excellent customer service. The company was then called the William A. Jack Construction Company (Butch is a nickname from childhood). When both sons joined the business in the late 1990’s, the name was changed to Jack Home Construction.

With a love for serving people and making customers happy, Butch is the picture of motivation and drive. He is amazing at coming up with practical solutions in the face of building difficulties. Butch married his high school sweetheart, Deanna Jack, and has two sons, one daughter, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren with a seventh on the way!

Butch enjoys reading books, gardening, and tinkering in his shop with both wood and metal. Over the years, he has built multiple woodworking projects, including the kitchen cabinets in his own home, his daughter's hope chest, a detailed dollhouse, and numerous other custom creations. With his exceptional craftsmanship, Butch can build anything, turning any vision into reality.

Meet Shawn Jack.

Shawn has now been building homes full time for 24 years. In the 1980’s, Shawn went to SIU and graduated with a B.S. degree in Computer Science. His first career was at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis where he worked for about 8 years as a Computer Systems Analyst. It was there he met his wife Tammy. He then moved back to Southern Illinois in 1997 to stay close to his family and to rejoin with the Jack Home Construction Company. In addition to his building skills, he is a licensed electrician and handles all the electrical work done by the company.

Shawn’s expertise in woodworking is exceptional. He has a remarkable ability to quickly build solid and well-designed pieces of furniture. His craftsmanship is not only efficient but also meticulous, ensuring that every piece he creates is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Whether it's a custom bookshelf, a sturdy table, or a detailed cabinet, Shawn’s skill and attention to detail shine through in every project he undertakes.

Shawn enjoys reading books and listening to lectures on science and history and reformed theology. He teaches the Bible at his church, and is enthusiastic about his watercolor painting hobby. He and Tammy have four children and six grandchildren, with a seventh grandchild on the way!

Meet Darek Jack.

Darek has an architectural degree from SIU. While studying at SIU, he worked summers for Jack Home Construction. After graduating with his degree, he began designing and building homes for Jack Home Construction, and has been doing so for over 29 years. He is familiar with and skilled in all phases of building a home, and is particularly good at joining additions to existing homes by matching style, foundation heights, and roof lines. Once the addition is done, it looks as if it had always been there.

Darek’s approach to woodworking is as much about artistry as it is about precision. His degree not only gives him a unique perspective on the architectural aspects of woodworking, but also makes him a perfect fit for the craft, blending technical expertise with an artistic eye. He approaches each project with a thoughtful and creative mindset, carefully planning every detail to ensure the final product is not only well-crafted but also beautifully designed. His patience and dedication allow him to tackle even the most complex and time-consuming tasks with ease, resulting in work that is both masterful and enduring.

Darek is also a book reader and a gun and archery enthusiast. He is a water-color and acrylic painter, and trained in self-defense. He is married to Katrina Jack. They have one twelve-year-old daughter. These days, he is busy working on the side with remodeling his house and playing with his daughter.
